International Management as Management of Diversity: Reconceptualizing Distance as Diversity

Despite the importance of distance in international business and management research, theoretical foundation for concept underlying causal mechanisms are subject to shortcomings. We propose reinvigorating study through a diversity lens. draw on research develop framework that distinguishes types (separation, variety, disparity) at three levels (institutional, organizational, individual). show how this allows scholars extend their analysis distance, revisit important questions, explore new issues. discuss empirical implications our lens community.
